How do strawberries dispersed
This discourages birds and animals from eating them; instead, they wait until the fruits turn red before eating them. Over time, the process of natural selection has ensured that those strawberry plants that produce the reddest and sweetest strawberries have genetic descendants.
The more flavorful and the more brightly colored a strawberry is, the more birds come for the fruit, and the more widely the seed dispersal takes place. When birds made the mistake of eating a sour, green strawberry, or even a strawberry that had just turned red but was not quite ripe, they released seeds into the wild that were not yet prepared to germinate, bringing that plant's family tree to an early end.
Each runner has a tiny plant at its end and these can be rooted and grown on to produce new plants. Dispersal of seeds is very important for the survival of plant species. If plants grow too closely together, they have to compete for light, water and nutrients from the soil. Seed dispersal allows plants to spread out from a wide area and avoid competing with one another for the same resources. Strawberries are perennials — they go through a period of dormancy in the winter and return each spring ready to go again.
Virtually every planting zone is conducive for growing strawberry plants at least a few months out of the year. Strawberries, though tasty, are actually flesh sacks that emerge from the plant to protect the tiny black seeds.
